I. Introduction
The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) represents New York State pharmacists who practice in hospitals, long-term care facilities and other health facilities. There are approximately 2,000 members of NYSCHP, along with a well-established network of leaders serving on the state board of directors, committees, and as chapter officers at the local level. Ten regional chapters provide programming to pharmacists practicing in health care facilities throughout New York State.
NYSCHP is active in the community involving itself in outreach programs, including school and public programs, medical centers, teaching hospitals, and others. For example, NYSCHP members provide talks with senior citizen groups, stressing the importance of avoiding adverse drug interactions, adherence to prescribed drug therapies, and awareness of drug expirations.
Approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing education, the New York State Council on Health-system Pharmacists offers a full spectrum of continuing education programs including a number of practice based certificate programs. Presented to members and non-members alike, either free or at a minimal cost, these programs are offered throughout the year - at the Annual Assembly, at the Midyear Clinical Meeting, Jan Keltz Memorial Winter CE Program, Certificate Programs, and by its chapters at varying times in between.
