Pharmacy Technician Legislation

The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists, along with other Pharmacy organizations, 1199, and GNYHA all support legislation that would require the registration and certification of Pharmacy Technicians in New York State. New York is one of only FIVE states which does not regulate, register or certify Pharmacy Technicians.

Pharmacy Technicians serve critical roles in Pharmacies, Hospitals, and Health-Systems. Pharmacists could not do their jobs without the work of dedicated pharmacy technicians. Technicians have access to dangerous drugs, including narcotics, and therefore should be regulated. Medication errors can potentially be avoided by ensuring a minimal educational competency for technicians as through national certification.

Are you interested in speaking with your legislator about regulating Pharmacy Technicians? Please see the guidance documents below. If you need any assistance, contact the Public Policy lead for your local chapter for more information. Contact the Vice President of Public Policy, Andrew Kaplan ([email protected]) for guidance.
